Agile Testing

Recommendations for Test Management Tools ?

I have started to use Jira to manage development of a new web site following agile practices. I want to create test plans and was hoping tools exist that work better than a spreadsheet full of functional test scenarios. Ideally the tool would integrate with Jira (that is serving us well for defect and feature request tracking).

What do you use and why did you select it ? Was it successful in your first project ? I can not afford to fail !

Agile Testing

I attended the discussion at the recent TMF concerning the move from traditional to agile testing. The consensus seemed to be that agile testing is equivalent to "Best Practice". Whether working on a traditional life cycle model or an agile life cycle model the testing needs to be "Risked Based". "Good Enough Testing" aims to assure a level of quality within the budgetary constraints of the project. This strategy is independent of the project life cycle model. Note that "Agile Testing" is not a methodology. This raises the question whether it is time to drop the phrase "Agile"?

Michael Bolton - Why didn't you find that bug?

Just to remind you that if you haven't booked on Michael Bolton's Rapid Software Testing course (6-8 April 2011 - www.rst4.eventbrite.com) you are still welcome to come along (for free) and meet him and hear a talk entitled "Why didn't you find that bug" at The London tester Gathering, The Shooting Star Pub, near Liverpool Street station on Wednesday evening 6th April from 6pm onwards.

PS: 4 places still available, sorry full price now, all early bird tickets sold out at the end of February.

The power to stop the train

Some of you will remember Brian Marrick at a STAR conference years ago standing infront of a picture of a giant locomotive and saying "testers must have the power to stop the train" in other words have influence over the release.

This inspired me to make three short videos about Rapid Software Testing which were done quickly on a low budget at a London surburban station where I used to work (as a test manager not a train driver I would add).

Why do you require a functional test automation framework? and Tips for designing a robust framework...

Every organization needs to automate their testing efforts for the following reasons....

  • Reduce time on regession testing
This generally is the most important item in any testing cycle and takes lot of effort completing it. Because, the regression suite increases with every release heavily. Following are the efforts that are required maintaining a regression suite.

    Agile on one page

What is Agile Development? What does it involve? What are the concepts around managing, design, development, testing and measuring Agile?

In an attempt to answer the above questions I have pulled together the following mind map using information gathered from a number of sources and I wanted to share this information. In order to resolve the concepts thoughts and misconceptions, I pulled this information together into a Mind Map. The attached image contains my collated findings on Agile achieves my goal of defining "Agile on one page".

Agile testing...it's not really happening for me...

    Hi,

Right, all advice and views appreciated. I am on my first Agile team. They're not truly Agile (don't respect the timebox, don't really iterate, don't really plan) but they did ask for me (the tester) to be embedded within the team, as this is the "Agile way".
