Building a requirements hierarchy

New project, new business area. So time to start all over again! We are using good ol' Quality Center (QC) for holding our test materials. But, what more?

In looking to see what work has been done, we have a series of test cases (in the test plan view), some output stored in the test lab, but nothing in the requirements (aka coverage). Nor the release cycle part too!

From the list of tests, it is very opaque the application purpose and workings. More of a collection of tests done at a given release. So time to fire up the quattro, er, application. Always helpful I find.

The power to stop the train

Some of you will remember Brian Marrick at a STAR conference years ago standing infront of a picture of a giant locomotive and saying "testers must have the power to stop the train" in other words have influence over the release.

This inspired me to make three short videos about Rapid Software Testing which were done quickly on a low budget at a London surburban station where I used to work (as a test manager not a train driver I would add).

Why do you require a functional test automation framework? and Tips for designing a robust framework...

Every organization needs to automate their testing efforts for the following reasons....

  • Reduce time on regession testing
This generally is the most important item in any testing cycle and takes lot of effort completing it. Because, the regression suite increases with every release heavily. Following are the efforts that are required maintaining a regression suite.

    Scottish Testing Group - Pairwise

I had a lovely day at the BCS Scottish Testing Group yesterday (Tue 24 Nov) where I was invited to speak about software testing techniques and in particular Pairwie. The audience were very attentive and asked some interesting and difficult questions, there will be a follow up on their forums soon. If anyone has experience of using Pairwise techniques or has any metrics on their effectiveness I'd be interested to open up a dialogue with you.

Thanks to my excellent hosts Graham Freeburn of Sopra and Shaun Gauld at J P Morgan and all the committee at Scottish Testing Group.
